InJourney Destination Management Strengthens Tour Guide Competence in the Borobudur Area
InJourney Destination Management (IDM) continues to strengthen the quality of its tourism human resources by organizing the InJourney Hospitality House (IHH) for 60 tour guides in the Borobudur Temple area in Magelang, Central Java. The three-day training, held from July 28–30, 2026, is part of the company's commitment to building a high-quality, inclusive, and sustainable tourism ecosystem in the Borobudur National Tourism Destination area.
PT Taman Wisata Borobudur Operations Director Supriadi Jufri said that tour guides have a strategic role as a representation of the destination's face before tourists.
"You are the frontline and face of Borobudur tourism. Your professionalism, ability to convey information, and concern for tourist safety and comfort are added values that leave a lasting impression on every visitor. We hope all this knowledge can be applied effectively in providing the best possible service to tourists," he explained.
Through InJourney Hospitality House, participants receive comprehensive training, ranging from understanding hospitality, practical English language training, implementing sustainability principles in tourism, developing and storytelling local potential, to utilizing digital marketing as a means of disseminating positive information about destinations to the public.
The training is designed not only to enhance individual capacity, but also to build increasingly professional service standards so as to be able to provide authentic tourism experiences while increasing the competitiveness of the Borobudur area at the national and international levels.
"The future of tourism requires increasingly high levels of professionalism. Therefore, training, capacity building, and broadening of knowledge are essential. By continually upgrading our competencies, we will be able to keep pace with the times and meet the ever-increasing expectations of tourists," explained Supriadi Jufri.
Supriadi also emphasized the importance of collaboration between all stakeholders in realizing sustainable tourism development.
"We hope the spirit of collaboration fostered through InJourney Hospitality House can be maintained. Developing high-quality and sustainable tourism cannot be achieved by one party alone; it requires synergy between the government, the community, tourism stakeholders, and the business world. We believe that through strong collaboration, Borobudur will become increasingly competitive, benefit the community, and become a source of pride for Indonesia."
One of Borobudur's tour guides, Andini Fajarriani, admitted that she gained a lot of new knowledge that can support her profession in providing services to tourists.
"InJourney Destination Management has been very helpful in developing tourism in Borobudur. I've gained a wealth of knowledge, from tourism development and hospitality to English, which is very useful when assisting tourists. I hope that Borobudur tourism will continue to grow and advance, consistently providing the best service, so that every visitor is happy and wants to return," he explained.
Dibyo, another Borobudur tour guide, echoed this sentiment. He considered the training a means of improving competency and standardizing service across the region.
"Over the past three days, we've learned a lot of new things that will be very useful for improving our guest service skills. Hopefully, training like this can continue and reach more tourism stakeholders, so that the narratives presented to tourists and service standards in the Borobudur area can be even better and more consistent."
Through InJourney Hospitality House, InJourney Destination Management continues to strengthen the role of communities as a vital part of destination management. Capacity building for tourism stakeholders is expected to improve service quality, strengthen the destination's positive image, and create memorable travel experiences for every visitor.
Going forward, IDM will continue to present various community empowerment programs and human resource capacity building as part of efforts to build sustainable tourism, provide economic benefits to the surrounding community, while strengthening Borobudur's position as a competitive world-class cultural destination.
